About Us
History
Our story starts over 30 years ago on a basketball court...
The Boyz was organized as a nonprofit organization in 2014, but the founding group members have been friends for over 30 years. They started playing basketball together as a form of recreation. Later they decided to host tailgate activities and provide free food and soft drinks as a way of giving back to the community.
It was in this spirit the desire to formalize community outreach efforts was born. The Boyz, Inc. were granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in September 17, 2014. As of August 2023, The Boyz, Inc. have donated over $64,050 in scholarships to Tennessee State University and Fisk University. We plan to improve our efforts and commitment by establishing an endowed scholarship at each named university which will provide scholarship opportunities for students as long as the institutions exist.
To fundraise, The Boyz, Inc. have also conducted food drives and participated in other community activities to demonstrate our commitment to young people and make an impact.
Our largest fundraising events are held annually — a Golf Tournament held in the fall and The Boyz Night Out Dinner and Dance held in December. Other funds are raised through solicitation from businesses and individuals. We also host tailgate activities during sporting events at Tennessee State University and Fisk University. These activities not only raise scholarship funds, but also create an atmosphere of comradery.
